The Markham Valley is a valley in Papua New Guinea's Morobe Province, taking its name from Sir Clements Markham, secretary of the British Royal Geographical Society, after whom Captain John Moresby named the Markham River during an 1873 voyage of exploration aboard HMS Basilisk. The valley contains the province's Huon Gulf district to the east and Markham district to the west, and its inhabitants are of Oceanic, Austronesian descent, living in large villages under a chieftain system.
