Mariveles Reef

Mariveles Reef is a disputed atoll in the southwestern part of Dangerous Ground within the Spratly Islands of the South China Sea, at coordinates 7 degrees 59 minutes 38 seconds north, 113 degrees 53 minutes 42 seconds east. The reef dries at high tide, enclosing two large lagoons in a figure-eight shape with a sand cay between them that rises only about 1.5 to 2 meters above the water and is barely visible at high tide. It lies 59 kilometers northeast of Swallow Reef and 35 nautical miles southeast of Barque Canada Reef, and Malaysia administers it as part of Sabah state, maintaining a Royal Malaysian Navy station there called Station Mike since 1986, though China, Taiwan, the Philippines and Vietnam also claim the feature amid the wider territorial disputes over the Spratly Islands.
