Manawatawhi / Three Kings Islands are a group of 13 uninhabited islands about 55 kilometers northwest of Cape Reinga, New Zealand, where the South Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea. The islands cover a combined area of about 6.85 square kilometers and sit on a submarine plateau known as the Three Kings Bank, separated from mainland New Zealand by a submarine trough 8 kilometers wide and 200 to 300 meters deep. Despite their relative closeness to the mainland, this separation places them among New Zealand outlying islands, administered directly as an Area Outside Territorial Authority rather than as part of any region or district.
