A mallin is a type of meadow and wetland found in southern Chile and Argentina, particularly in eastern Patagonia at the base of basaltic plateaus, where groundwater reaches the surface even as the area remains a net zone of infiltration, leaving soils rich in organic matter. Mallines have long served Argentine ranchers as grazing land for cattle, sheep, and horses.
