The Madygen Formation is a Triassic sedimentary formation in southwestern Kyrgyzstan, roughly two hundred and thirty million years old, preserving an unusually complete Triassic ecosystem including insects, plants and reptiles, among them the gliding reptile Sharovipteryx and the small reptile Longisquama, both notable for unusual body adaptations debated as early experiments in animal flight. The formation is one of the richest sources of Triassic insect fossils known.
