Lower Curtis Glacier

Lower Curtis Glacier is a mountain glacier in a cirque on the western slopes of Mount Shuksan, in North Cascades National Park, Whatcom County, Washington, named for the photographer Asahel Curtis. Covering 0.8 square kilometers (0.31 sq mi), it has a negative mass balance, meaning it loses more ice each year than it gains: it thinned by 45 meters between 1908 and 1984, lost a further 6 meters of thickness between 1984 and 2002, and has retreated 184 meters since 1985, with its tongue ending at steep cliffs that may be accelerating the loss.
