The Lockyer Valley is an area of rich farmland west of Brisbane and east of Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia, rated among the top ten most fertile farming areas in the world. Its intensively cultivated land grows one of the most diverse ranges of commercial fruit and vegetables of any area in Australia, earning it the description Australia's Salad Bowl. The valley is experiencing increasing urbanization at its eastern and western ends as growth spreads between the Brisbane-Ipswich conurbation and Toowoomba, with planning measures confining new development to non-arable land on the slopes of the surrounding hills.
