Lion Rock is a 495 meter granite peak on the border of Sha Tin District and Kowloon in Hong Kong, formed from Kowloon granite estimated at about 140 million years old. Seen from the Choi Hung and San Po Kong areas, its silhouette closely resembles a crouching lion, which gives the peak its name. A 1974 television drama and its theme song made the mountain a symbol of the so called Lion Rock Spirit, the idea of Hong Kong resilience and a can do attitude, though its steep trail is also listed by the Hong Kong government as one of sixteen high risk hiking locations.
