Liathach is a mountain in the Torridon Hills of Scotland's Northwest Highlands, standing between Loch Torridon and the neighboring peak of Beinn Eighe at an elevation of 1,055 meters. It is built of Torridonian sandstone, mostly red and chocolate colored varieties along with arkoses, flagstones and shales, resting on much older Lewisian gneiss, some of whose material was itself weathered into the sandstone above. The rock forms massive, near horizontal strata that create the numerous terraces visible from a distance, a landscape further shaped by heavy glacial and alluvial erosion.
