The Lau Islands, also called the Lau Group, are a chain of about sixty islands and islets east of the Koro Sea in Fiji, of which around thirty are inhabited. The northern part of the group consists mostly of high islands of volcanic origin, while the southern islands are mostly low carbonate islands. The group covers about 188 square miles and had a population of 10,683 at the 2007 census.
