Langtang

Langtang, also called Lamtang Valley, is a Himalayan valley in Nepal's Rasuwa District, about 80 kilometers north of Kathmandu, lying within Langtang National Park along the border with Tibet. It sits beneath the Langtang Himal range to the north, whose peaks exceed 7,000 meters and include Langtang Lirung at 7,234 meters, with the Jugal Himal range to the southeast. The valley spans a wide range of climate zones from subtropical to alpine, and roughly a quarter of the park is forested with oak, maple, pine and rhododendron, supporting wildlife such as snow leopards and Himalayan black bears. Before a 2015 earthquake devastated the area, about 668 people lived in the valley, most of them ethnic Langtangpa following Tibetan Buddhism and speaking a related Tibetan dialect.
