A kuppe is the term used in German speaking central Europe for a mountain or hill with a rounded summit that carries no rock outcrop such as a tor, with a range of such hills called a kuppengebirge. In geology the term is also applied to corresponding stratigraphic forms, and it is closely related to the English terms knoll and dome and to the French word ballon, which likewise describes a mountain with a rounded summit.
