Kolahoi Glacier

Kolahoi Glacier lies at an average elevation of about 4,700 meters in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, India, and is the primary source of the Lidder River, which supplies drinking water and irrigation to Anantnag district before draining into the Jhelum River. The glacier has shrunk markedly: it measured about 5 kilometers in length in 1974, contracted from 13.57 square kilometers in 1963 to 10.69 square kilometers in 2005, and research places its recent area as low as about 9.88 square kilometers against a historical extent of around 35 square kilometers, with a recession rate of roughly 73 meters a year measured between 1922 and 2015.
