A klippe is a geological feature found in thrust fault terrains, formed as the remnant portion of a nappe left behind after erosion has removed the rock connecting it to the rest of the nappe. The result is an outlier of exotic rock strata, often moved nearly horizontally from its original position, resting on top of the undisturbed strata beneath it.
