Kjeragbolten is a boulder wedged in a narrow crevasse on the mountain Kjerag, in the eastern part of Sandnes Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway, near the village of Lysebotn on Lysefjorden. The boulder itself measures about 5 cubic meters and rests at an elevation of 984 meters above sea level, suspended over a chasm roughly 984 meters deep, yet it can be walked out onto without climbing equipment. It is a glacial deposit, carried into place during the last glaciation around 50,000 BC. As Norway's glaciers subsequently melted, the land rebounded upward faster than the sea level was rising, and this combination of glacial isostatic rebound and rising sea level is what wedged the boulder into the crevasse where it still sits today. Kjeragbolten has become a popular hiking destination and, because of the sheer drop beneath it, a well-known BASE jumping site.
