Kinmen, alternatively known as Quemoy, is a group of islands and a county of the Republic of China (Taiwan), lying only about 10 kilometers east of the city of Xiamen on the southeastern coast of mainland China, from which it is separated by Xiamen Bay. Kinmen sits roughly 187 kilometers west of the closest shoreline of the island of Taiwan across the Taiwan Strait.
