The Jordan Valley is a segment of the larger Jordan Rift Valley, a tectonic depression running through the Middle East. Unlike most river valleys, the name is usually applied specifically to the lower course of the Jordan River, from the point where it exits the Sea of Galilee in the north to where it flows into the Dead Sea in the south. In a broader sense the term can also be extended to cover the Dead Sea basin and the Arabah, the rift valley segment beyond the Dead Sea that continues about 155 kilometers farther south to Aqaba and Eilat.
