Jiuzhaigou is a nature reserve and national park in a long north to south valley in northwestern Sichuan Province in southwestern China. The site is a high-altitude karst landscape shaped by glacial and hydrological processes, known for multi-level waterfalls, brightly colored lakes formed through travertine deposition, and snow-capped peaks. UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and designated it a Biosphere Reserve in 1997, recognizing its natural significance and forest ecosystems across about 72,000 hectares.
