The Jiufotang Formation is an Early Cretaceous geological formation in Chaoyang, Liaoning, China, part of the Jehol Group, which has yielded fossils of feathered dinosaurs, primitive birds, pterosaurs and other organisms, including remains of Microraptor and Jeholornis. It is composed mainly of mudstone with sandstone, and uranium-lead dating places its fossil-bearing layers in the Aptian stage of the Early Cretaceous, between about 124 and 121 million years ago. Its subunits include the Shangheshou and Meileyingzi beds.
