Jebel Uweinat is a mountain range at the point where Egypt, Libya and Sudan meet, rising to 1,895 meters and covering an area roughly 30 kilometers long by 25 kilometers wide. Its western section is built of intrusive granite arranged in a ring shape, while its eastern part consists of sandstone, giving the massif distinct compositional zones across its extent. Thousands of prehistoric rock art sites across the range record the development of early pastoralism in Africa and exchanges among different peoples who crossed the Sahara.
