Hügelland is a landscape of low, rolling hills whose topography sits between that of a flat lowland region and that of a more rugged hill range or low mountain range. The German word has no exact English equivalent and is usually translated as hill country, hilly terrain, upland or rolling countryside. It is derived from Hügel, meaning a low hill or hillock, and the word itself often appears as part of a proper place name for terrain of this kind.
