Huayna Potosi rises in western Bolivia near the city of El Alto, about 25 kilometers north of the capital La Paz, reaching an elevation of about 6,088 meters as part of the Cordillera Real range of the Andes, which runs between the Altiplano plains and the lowland Yungas forests leading to the Amazon basin. It is a non-volcanic fold mountain raised by Andean tectonic compression. This entity documents Huayna Potosi specifically as a geological formation, a Cordillera Real fold peak overlooking La Paz and the Altiplano.
