Hōrai Valley is a badland in the Rokkō Mountains of Hyōgo, Japan, within Setonaikai National Park, following the upper reaches of the Ōtada River. Its slopes are formed of brittle white granite that has eroded into sawtooth ridges and cliffs up to a hundred meters high, a terrain type the source describes as rare among badlands elsewhere in the world. The valley takes its name from a mystical mountain of Chinese mythology, and its stark, otherworldly cliffs have made it a popular filming location for Japanese movies as well as a destination for climbers, reached by Hankyu bus service to the Shirube Iwa or Zatodani stops.
