A hill chain, sometimes called a hill ridge, is an elongated line of hills made up of a succession of more or less prominent hilltops, domed summits, hill ridges and saddles, together with associated lateral ridges and branches that can form a complex topographic structure. It can occur within a larger hill range, within an area of low rolling hill country, or on a plain, and it can link two or more otherwise separate hill ranges. The line between a hill chain and a mountain chain is not sharp and depends on how a given region defines a hill or a mountain.
