Heard Island and McDonald Islands

The Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands is an Australian external territory in the southern Indian Ocean, made up of a group of sub-Antarctic volcanic islands lying on the Kerguelen Plateau. It sits about 4,000 kilometers southwest of the Australian mainland and 1,700 kilometers north of Antarctica. The territory holds Australia's only active volcanoes and its highest point outside the Australian Antarctic Territory, Mawson Peak, and it remains uninhabited, described as one of the most remote places on Earth.
