A headland, also called a head, is a coastal landform, a point of land that is usually high with a sheer drop, extending out into a body of water; it is a type of promontory, and a headland of considerable size is often called a cape instead. Headlands are marked by high breaking waves, rocky shores and intense erosion along their exposed sea cliffs.
