Haytor is a granite tor on the eastern edge of Dartmoor in Devon, England, near Haytor Vale village in the parish of Ilsington, reaching an elevation of 457 meters (1,499 feet) on the moor's eastern boundary, where it is visible from as far away as Exeter and Totnes. It forms an "avenue" tor made of two main outcrops with granite that has eroded away from between them; the rock is mostly coarse-grained granite, though finer-grained granite at the base of the western outcrop has eroded more than the rest, leaving a rock-shelter overhang. Widely regarded as Dartmoor's most famous landmark, it is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and attracts numerous visitors and climbers, who use both outcrops for routes of varying difficulty.
