Haida Gwaii

Haida Gwaii is an archipelago of about 150 islands lying 55 to 125 kilometers off the northern Pacific coast of British Columbia, Canada, with Graham Island and Moresby Island its two largest landmasses at a combined 10,180 square kilometers. The islands have been home to the Haida people for some 13,000 years and remain the heartland of the Haida Nation, whose members make up roughly half of the archipelago population of 4,526. The territory was formally renamed from Queen Charlotte Islands to Haida Gwaii in 2010 under the Reconciliation Act. The islands lie along the Queen Charlotte Fault, an active transform fault produced by the converging Pacific and North American plates that generates significant earthquakes every three to thirty years.
