The Grenadines are a chain of small islands strung between the larger islands of Saint Vincent and Grenada in the Lesser Antilles. The northern two-thirds of the roughly 32 islands and cays belong to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the southern third, including the largest and most populous island, Carriacou, belongs to Grenada. Nine of the islands are inhabited and open to the public, among them Bequia, Mustique, Canouan and Union Island.
