Great Andaman is the main archipelago of the Andaman Islands of India, made up of seven principal islands running north to south, North Andaman, Interview Island, Middle Andaman, Long Island, Baratang Island, South Andaman and Rutland Island, along with about 200 smaller islands, in the Bay of Bengal. Covering about 4,823.5 square kilometers with a highest point of 731 meters at Saddle Peak, the islands represent the exposed peaks of a submerged mountain chain, each with a central highland ringed by flatter borderland sloping toward the coast. Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, lies on South Andaman, and Great Andaman forms the larger counterpart to the separate Little Andaman group within the wider Andaman Islands.
