Goose Lake Valley is a high valley in south-central Oregon and northeastern California, at the northwestern corner of North America Great Basin. It is an alluvial basin formed by faulted blocking, with Pliocene and Pleistocene lava flows overlain by Holocene sedimentary deposits; during the Pleistocene the entire valley was covered by a pluvial lake that may have been up to 300 feet deep, which receded into the present endorheic Goose Lake straddling the Oregon-California border. Native Americans inhabited the valley for thousands of years, the Applegate Trail once crossed it, and Lakeview, Oregon is now its largest settlement, with livestock ranching and lumber milling as its main commercial activities.
