The Gogo Formation is a Late Devonian formation in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, formed from limestone reef deposits roughly three hundred and eighty million years old, famous for fish fossils preserved in three dimensions within hard nodules that can be dissolved out with acid, revealing soft tissue including muscle fibers, embryos and, in one specimen, what is interpreted as the oldest known umbilical cord. The formation has substantially reshaped understanding of early vertebrate reproduction and internal anatomy.
