Glassy Mountain rises near Pickens, South Carolina, to a summit elevation of 1,703 feet. An isolated monadnock close to the Blue Ridge, it offers views of nearby summits such as Table Rock and Caesar's Head as well as the city of Greenville. The mountain takes its name from a large bare granite face on its north side, down which small springs trickle to give the rock a glassy appearance in sunlight; a service road built for transmitter towers leads to the summit, which local high school students have long painted with their graduation years, some large enough to be visible in aerial imagery.
