A geo, or gio, is a narrow, deep inlet or gully cut into the face of a sea cliff. Geos are common along the coastlines of the Shetland and Orkney islands, where wave driven erosion follows faults and bedding planes in the rock. A geo may carry a sea cave at its inland end, and the collapse of such a cave can extend the geo further or leave a depression in the land behind it.
