Franz Josef Land

Franz Josef Land is a Russian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, constituting the northernmost part of Arkhangelsk Oblast. It consists of 192 islands covering about 16,134 square kilometers, stretching 375 kilometers east to west and 234 kilometers north to south, and is inhabited only by military personnel. The islands fall into three groups separated by the British Channel and the Austrian Strait, with the central group further divided by the Markham Sound, and its largest island is Prince George Land, followed by Wilczek Land, Graham Bell Island, and Alexandra Land.
