The Five West Sea Islands refers to five islands in the West Sea administered by Incheon, South Korea: Yeonpyeongdo, Baengnyeongdo, Daecheongdo, Socheongdo and Soyeonpyeongdo. The islands lie close to North Korea, having originally been part of Hwanghae Province, and their sovereignty is claimed by North Korea, but they have been controlled by South Korea since the United Nations forces established the Northern Limit Line north of the islands in 1953, following the Korean War.
