Fissure Vent

A fissure vent, also called a volcanic fissure or eruption fissure, is a linear volcanic vent through which lava erupts, usually without explosive activity. The vent is often only a few metres wide but can run for many kilometres. Fissure vents can produce large flood basalts that flow first through lava channels and later through lava tubes, and over time an eruption along a fissure tends to become focused at one or more spatter cones, with the resulting line of volcanic cones and craters known as a crater row.
