Fakaofo, formerly known as Bowditch Island, is a South Pacific atoll in the Tokelau Group. Its land area is only about 3 square kilometers, made up of islets on a coral reef surrounding a central lagoon of about 45 square kilometers, and according to the 2006 census 483 people officially lived there, most of them Congregational or Catholic Christians.
