Dune 45 is a star dune in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib Desert in Namibia, named for its position at the 45th kilometer of the road connecting the Sesriem gate to Sossusvlei. It stands over 170 meters tall and is built from sand more than 5 million years old, sediment originally eroded from the Kalahari Desert, carried toward the coast by the Orange River, and then reworked into dunes by wind. The dune is a popular destination for visitors, who climb it for views and photograph it at sunrise and sunset.
