The Drumheller Hoodoos are mushroom shaped rock pillars in the badlands along the Red Deer River near Drumheller, Alberta, Canada. Each hoodoo forms through differential erosion, a harder cap of resistant rock protecting a softer column of sandstone and mudstone beneath it from washing away as the surrounding land erodes. The hoodoos sit within the same fossil rich badlands that have made the Drumheller area one of the world's richest sources of dinosaur fossils.
