Crowders Mountain is a monadnock in the western Piedmont of North Carolina, rising to about 495 meters and standing roughly 240 meters above the surrounding terrain of Gaston County, with sheer cliffs up to 46 meters high on its exposed faces. The mountain's resistant rock, which includes kyanite, barite and iron bearing minerals, withstood erosion that wore down the softer surrounding land over a much longer span, leaving the peak an isolated, sharply defined summit. It anchors Crowders Mountain State Park, about forty kilometers west of Charlotte.
