Corcovado is a granite and gneiss peak rising about seven hundred and ten meters within Tijuca Forest National Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, one of several steep sided monolithic peaks, along with Sugarloaf Mountain, formed from ancient crystalline rock exposed as the softer surrounding rock eroded away. Its summit carries the Christ the Redeemer statue, making the mountain one of the most recognized landmarks in South America.
