Conejo Valley is a roughly 900-foot-high valley in Southern California spanning southeastern Ventura County and northwestern Los Angeles County, named from the Spanish word for rabbit after the desert cottontail and brush rabbit once common there. It lies within the Santa Monica Mountains area and is bordered by the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles to the east, the Simi Hills to the north, the Las Posas Hills and Santa Rosa Valley to the northwest, Conejo Mountain and the Oxnard Plain to the west, and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south. The valley holds several communities, among them Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Lake Sherwood and part of Calabasas, placing it within the northwestern Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
