The Colca Canyon is a canyon cut by the Colca River in southern Peru, about 160 kilometres northwest of Arequipa, running some 70 kilometres in length and reaching a depth of about 3,270 metres, among the deepest canyons anywhere. The surrounding Colca Valley is home to communities descended from the pre-Inca Collagua and Cabana cultures, who still farm the valley's ancient stepped terraces, called andenes.
