Chicamocha Canyon is a steep sided canyon carved by the Chicamocha River through the Colombian departments of Boyacá and Santander, running about 227 kilometers from Soatá in the southeast to Girón and Betulia in the northwest. It covers roughly 108,000 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of about 2,000 meters, ranking among the largest canyons in the world by both area and depth. The Suárez River also runs through the canyon system and joins the Chicamocha south of Zapatoca to form the Sogamoso River. The canyon is protected within Chicamocha National Park, about 55 kilometers from Bucaramanga.
