Cenote Yokdzonot lies in the village of Yokdzonot on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, about 15 kilometers west of Chichen Itza, a karst sinkhole with an opening roughly 40 meters across and a depth in the region of 35 to 45 meters, formed by the collapse of the region's limestone bedrock into a flooded cavity below. Once abandoned, the cenote has been restored and managed since 2005 by Zaaz Koolen Haa, a local Mayan cooperative made up mostly of women, who run it as a community-based ecotourism site offering swimming, zip-lining and rappelling.
