Cenote Chac Mool lies about 28 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, part of a connected karst cave system with three separate entrances, including the nearby Kukulcan and Little Brother openings, and reaching a maximum depth of about 13 meters. It formed, like the region's other cenotes, from the collapse of limestone bedrock into a flooded underground cavity, and its clear water carries a halocline where fresh and salt water meet, along with abundant aquatic vegetation and cave formations including stalactites and stalagmites visible in its air-filled chambers.
