Cenote Azul lies just south of Puerto Aventuras in the Riviera Maya region of Quintana Roo, Mexico, a fully open-air karst sinkhole formed by the collapse of limestone bedrock with no overhanging cave roof remaining. At roughly 180 meters across it ranks among the largest cenotes in Mexico, with clear blue water ranging from shallow shelves about five meters deep, suited to children and first-time swimmers, down to deeper sections reaching about 26 meters, along with a popular cliff-jumping ledge some five meters above the surface. Its open structure and abundant fish make it a favored snorkeling site along the Riviera Maya cenote corridor.
