Boulder Glacier lies on the southeast slope of Mount Baker, a stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of Washington State, and is the sixth largest of the mountain's glaciers, covering about 1.3 square miles. It descends from the summit crater between Grant Peak and Sherman Peak to roughly 5,000 feet in elevation, and has retreated sharply in recent decades, losing about 1,610 feet between 1987 and 2008 after an even larger recession of some 8,700 feet between 1850 and 1950.
