Benagil Cave is a sea cave on Portugal's Algarve coast between Lagos and Albufeira, reached by boat or kayak from the nearby village of Benagil in the municipality of Lagoa. Unlike most sea caves, which are hollowed out only from the side by wave action, Benagil has also been eroded from above, leaving an opening in its ceiling that lets sunlight pour down onto the sand floor and turquoise water inside. That skylight has made the cave one of the most photographed natural features on the Algarve coast, drawing enough boat traffic that authorities have since limited the number of vessels allowed inside at once and capped visits to two minutes per boat.
